Launched in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, BrightDrop is the electric commercial subsidiary of General Motors. Taking advantage of their Ultium electric vehicle technology, boasting reduced manufacturing costs and complexity thanks to 90% less wiring and reduced dependency on cobalt, BrightDrop develops purpose-built commercial electric vehicles and accessories that are made for growing clean fleets, currently partnering with Walmart, FedEx and longtime Enel X Way partner Ryder.
Currently BrightDrop’s Zevo line of commercial vans are built at their CAMI facility in Ontario, Canada with Ultium battery packs manufactured at Lordstown, Ohio. By using GM’s extensive North American manufacturing operations, commercial purchasers of BrightDrop’s Zevo line are eligible for the Federal commercial Clean Vehicle redit, providing up to $7,500 for vehicles under 14,000 lbs.
